CHICO’ CAROLINA AND CAIO’S CHURCH-LINA – LETHARGICALLY LOOKI

CHICO’ CAROLINA AND CAIO’S CHURCH-LINA – LETHARGICALLY LOOKI

I wrote several books and messages in the 70´s comparing “the evangelical church” or “church-lina” as I named her, to Carolina, a song by Chico Buarque.

For me, the Evangelical Church (Church-Lina) has always been like Carolina, to whom time has lethargically passed by:
She saw nothing,
she did nothing to enjoy God’s love,
she did nothing to enjoy love herself,
life outside the window did not seduce her.

Being herself a daughter of fear of living and fruit of the “phobia-god”, who has paralyzed church-lina into a melancholically, alienating and “pissing off” devotion, she preferred reclusion.

I wrote several books and messages in the 70´s comparing “the church” or “church-lina” as I named her, to Carolina by Chico Buarque. Those who have not forgotten my repeatedly denouncements against “Carolina”, will surely understand that they were all about her alienation from existence. They were about her fear of rendering herself to God’s love and her capacity of leaving the “room”, and going beyond the window, to live and enjoy God out of the gate.

…….

Therefore, here goes Church-Lina - Parodied from Carolina with all my due respect.

Church-Lina In her gloomy eyes
Holds so much pain
The pain of all the world
I told her it would not work
Her “dry-weeping” would not help
I even invited her dancing
It is party time, I know
Macedo cannot deceive her anymore ..
Out there, my love
Grace has blossomed
People have understood
A star has been born
Looking out of the window,
I showed her in a smile: Oh How lovely!
But Church-Lina did not see it.

Church-lina In her sad eyes
 Holds so much love
The love that does not exist anymore
Out there, my love Many people have died,
Our party has ended,
Our boat has departed.
I showed her anyway,
Time has passed by the window
But Church-Lina didn’t see it.

(Carolina, by Chico Buarque parodied by me with all my due respect.

Church-Lina now has a chance to open the window, look toward heaven, walk in the streets, dance at the Father’s party, and live God in Jesus’ freedom out of men’s tyranny. The boat has departed but it has returned; it is time for sailing in the love-and-grace winds instead of covering the head with a veil of sadness. Wake up Church-Lina/Carolina! Time has passed... it goes by... it sometimes comes again. But today is the day to open the window or to attend the invitation for the Life Gateway!

In Him, who is not just a “window” but also a Door through which all Carolinas can come and go and find freedom of being.

P.S.: I wrote this inspired by Fonseca’s letter about “Rosa dos Ventos” By Chico Buarque.

Lyrics in Portuguese and English:

Carolina (by Chico Buarque 1967)

Nos seus olhos fundos
Guarda tanta dor

Guarda tanto amor
O amor que já não existe
Eu bem que avisei, vai acabar
De tudo lhe dei para aceitar
Mil versos cantei pra lhe agradar
Agora não sei como explicar
Lá fora, amor Uma rosa morreu
Uma festa acabou
Nosso barco partiu
Eu bem que mostrei a ela
O tempo passou na janela
Só Carolina não viu

Carolina

Carolina In her gloomy eyes
Holds so much pain
The pain of the whole world
I told her it would not work
Her weeping would change nothing
I have already asked her dancing
It is time for fun (carpe diem), I know...
Out there, my love
A rose has blossomed
Dancing samba is over
A star has fallen
Looking out of the window
I told her in a smile: Oh, how lovely!
But Carolina didn’t see it. ...
xxx
Carolina In her sad eyes
Holds so much love
The love that does not exist anymore
I warned her it would end
I did my best to understand
A thousand verses I sang to cheer her up
Now I just cannot explain...
Out there, my love
A Rose has withered
A party has ended
Our boat has departed
I showed her though
Time has passed by the window
Everybody saw but Carolina. ....
